The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has affirmed Julius Abure as the Chairman of the Labour Party. The Justice Hamman Barka-led three-member panel of the court delivered the judgement on Wednesday, in an appeal filed by Mr Abure challenging the decision of the verdict of the Federal Capital Territory High Court. Justice Barka held that Abure’s appeal had merit and was accordingly allowed, adding that the high court shouldn’t have even assumed jurisdiction on the matter. The Edo House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against the state’s deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, on Wednesday. The Majority Leader, Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian (PDP Ovia North-East 1), who announced the impeachment notice, said a petition dated March 5 against Mr Shaibu was signed by 21 of the 24 members of the legislature.
