The Federal Government will generate about N160.46bn from excise duty on telecommunication services in 2023. According to the Nigerian Communications Commission, the combined revenue of operators in the GSM, Fixed Wired, and Internet Service Providers was N3.21tn in 2021. If the government implements its five per cent excise duty on telecom services, it will generate about N160.46bn. The amount, however, assumes that the revenue of the telcos would be static. Armed bandits have abducted a traditional ruler, the Oniru of Iku, in Ondo. The bandits also abducted four subjects travelling with the Ikare Akoko ruler. Mikaila Bello, the Oniku of Iku in Ikare Akoko, was kidnapped, on Thursday evening, while travelling back to the town from Akure. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Tuesday said none of its university lecturers has been paid since the union embarked on industrial action in February. Checks on Monday showed that the registration portal, https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/home/index is no longer responding. A notice on the website reads: “The CVR Exercise has been suspended.
