Members of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control branch, on Tuesday, suspended its indefinite strike. The union’s Secretary, Mr. Ayodeji Adetoboye, disclosed this in an interview with The PUNCH. Adetoboye said, “An agreement has been signed, and it is expected that much should be done before year-end or the strike will be resumed.” It was reported that the health workers embarked on strike on 21 June, 2022 to protest, amongst other things, poor welfare packages and unpaid promotion arrears. Suspected herdsmen on Sunday night killed seven persons in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. The incident occurred less than 24 hours after 18 people were killed during a clash between bandits and members of vigilante group in the Wase Council Area of the State. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has extended its over five months rollover strike by another four weeks. The role-over strike action is with effect from Monday, 1st August. President of ASUU, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, who announced in a statement on Monday in Abuja, said the one-month extension would give Government more time to satisfactorily resolve all the outstanding issues. No fewer than 1,969 candidates missed the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations and Direct Entry Examinations. The affected persons missed the examination over issues such as finger-print peculiarities; technical problems in some centres and Biometric Verification Matriculation failure, according to the data collated from the website of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board by our correspondent on Sunday.
