A magistrates’ court sitting in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Friday remanded a 25-year-old man, Kola Adebisi, for allegedly beating a woman to death. The police charged Mr Adebisi with assault and homicide. Magistrate Kikelomo Adebayo did not take Mr Adebisi’s plea on grounds that his court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the case. The Cross River government says it cleared 72,000 hectares of land to cultivate rice and other crops. Governor Bassey Otu announced this at a dinner for journalists, on Thursday.
