The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved an increase in electricity tariff with effect from September 1, 2020 (today). This comes three months after the tariff hike implementation slated for July 1 was halted by the National Assembly, which prevailed on the distribution companies to shelve the date to the first quarter of 2021 due to the current economic challenges in Nigeria. The Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) Unit of the Lagos State Ministry of Education has warned the public to disregard a resumption timetable in the social media. The timetable, which claims to be the 2020/2021 academic calendar, states that the first term of the session will start on September 21 and end on December 18. The new service reflective tariff approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has taken effect today. Already, electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) have started releasing tariff tables for each category of customers.
