The House of Representatives has approved the request by the President Muhammadu Buhari to borrow $22.7bn. The lawmakers approved the request at Tuesday’s plenary after the committee on aids, loans, and debt management gave its report. Buhari had in 2019 when he sent the request said the loan will be used to finance key infrastructures in the country. The President first sent the loan request to the National Assembly under Bukola Saraki but it was rejected.

President Muhammadu Buhari has met with the President of African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr Akinwumi Adesina, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Adesina has been at the centre of sundry allegations of misconduct at the Abidjan-based financial institution, which he has denied. A 20-year-old commercial motorcycle rider in Adamawa State has been shot dead by the police for refusing to give N100 bribe. The victim, Arabo Dauda, was said to have been killed at a police checkpoint in Maiha town under Maiha Local Government Area of the state. The House of Representatives has rejected a motion seeking to suspend implementation of the 7.5% Value Added Tax (VAT) Act in the interest of Nigerians owing to impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. In rejecting the motion, the lawmakers said since the 2.5 % increase in VAT was already an Act of the National Assembly, which has been signed into law, it cannot be suspended by a motion. President Muhammadu Buhari has notified the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) and other security agencies to ensure the protection of telecom infrastructures across the country. The approval of the protection followed the request of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ibrahim Pantami.
