The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Command, has urged motorists to avoid speeding to reduce crashes along the highways.

The state FRSC Sector Commander, Fasakin Akinwumi, gave the advice during an interview on Tuesday.

Mr Akinwumi also urged motorists to ensure adequate rest before embarking on journeys in the interest and that of their passengers. .

The FRSC official spoke in reaction to an accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday that claimed nine lives and injured three persons.

He said that the accident could have been averted if the driver of the Toyota Hiace Bus had adhered to the average speed limit.

He stated, “We can no longer tolerate these needless deaths that are caused by avoidable accidents. Some drivers are simply reckless. We urge motorists to desist from speeding, and endeavour to take adequate rest to prevent fatigue that can lead to accidents and unnecessary deaths..

Mr Akinwumi also advised drivers to obey traffic rules, shun alcoholic drinks, and avoid overloading to reduce road accidents.

He said that the FRSC would embark on aggressive enforcement of speed limit devices in the state, adding that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted.

Recall that nine persons died and three others sustained varying degrees of injury in a road accident that occurred at the Ayetoro axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday.

The crash involved a stationary articulated vehicle and a bus, conveying 13 persons comprising 10 men and three women.
