Osun PDP slams APC LG Chairmen over sack threat

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for threatening to sack local government workers, describing the move as intimidation and an act of lawlessness.

Recently reinstated council officials, elected under the APC, warned that workers who failed to report for duty on Monday would lose their jobs.

Reacting to this, PDP’s Media Director, Oladele Bamiji, condemned the chairmen, accusing them of being used as political tools.

He alleged that the APC has consistently acted against the interests of public workers.

“These removed chairmen, who have now become mere puppets in the hands of their political masters, are once again showing that the APC has little regard for workers’ welfare,” Bamiji said.

The PDP also called on security agencies to probe claims of an alleged arms buildup involving APC members.

In defense, APC leader Jamiu Olawumi dismissed the PDP’s accusations, arguing that the opposition party was inciting workers against a legitimate court ruling.

“The matter is straightforward. A court has reinstated our elected officials, and anyone who disagrees should appeal legally rather than encourage workers to disobey a judicial order,” Olawumi stated.

Meanwhile, former Osun lawmaker Olatunbosun Oyintiloye has urged the Federal Government to ensure that funds meant for local councils are released to the reinstated APC chairmen.

“These chairmen have been unable to perform their duties since their removal in 2022. Now that they have been reinstated by the Court of Appeal, their allocations should be restored so grassroots governance can function properly,” Oyintiloye said.

He also praised the Inspector-General of Police for maintaining order in the state.
