Shehu Sani reveals why he returned to APC

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has explained why he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Hard Copy, a Channels Television program, on Friday, Sani stated that his decision was influenced by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani’s efforts to reconcile political differences within the state.

Sani initially exited the APC in October 2018 after issues surrounding the party’s primaries.

He later moved to the PDP, where he secured the party’s senatorial ticket but lost the 2019 election to Uba Sani, who is now the governor of Kaduna State.

After spending years in the opposition, he officially returned to the APC on February 16, along with other members who defected from the PDP and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

During the interview, Sani emphasized that he was a founding member of the APC in Kaduna and played a major role in shaping its structure.

He noted that his departure in 2018 was due to political and personal disagreements with former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

“We left the APC in 2018 because of certain issues, but now that things have changed, we decided to return,” he explained.

Sani further recalled, “I was part of those who built the APC in Kaduna. We formed its structures, ran campaigns, and secured victories in the 2015 senatorial and governorship elections. Later on, I had differences with the then-governor, Nasir El-Rufai, which led to my exit.”

He added that Governor Uba Sani’s leadership and reconciliation efforts were key reasons why he chose to return to the party.
