A notorious Lakurawa kingpin, Maigemu, has been killed in an operation carried out by security forces and vigilantes in Kebbi State.
The Director of Security at the Cabinet Office in Birnin Kebbi, Alhaji Abdulrahman Zagga, confirmed in a statement on Friday that Maigemu was neutralized on Thursday in Kuncin Baba, a remote area in Arewa Local Government, following an intense gun battle.
“He was taken down by a combined team of security agents and local vigilantes, acting on intelligence,” Zagga stated.
The operation occurred just a week after Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, visited Bagiza and Rausa Kade communities to console residents over the killing of six people by suspected Lakurawa cattle rustlers.
During his visit, the governor promised increased security measures and reinforcements to curb criminal activities in the region.
Zagga commended the governor’s commitment to security and the ongoing logistical support for security agencies.
He urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security forces, and report suspicious activities to aid efforts in restoring peace.
The Lakurawa group, reportedly linked to extremist organizations, has been responsible for numerous deadly attacks in Northern Nigeria, particularly in Sokoto and Kebbi states.
