The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has revealed plans to construct additional bus terminals in the satellite towns of Bwari and Gwagwalada to improve public transport safety and service delivery.
This was disclosed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Bwari Area Council and the Abuja International Conference Centre on Saturday. The minister said the new terminals would complement existing ones in Mabushi, Central Area, and Kugbo, which were awarded contracts in 2024, with the Mabushi and Kugbo terminals nearing completion and the Central Area terminal still under construction.
Wike explained that expanding the terminal network to satellite towns would promote inclusivity and security in public transportation.
“We have agreed to construct one bus terminal each in Gwagwalada and Bwari. This will enable residents to board taxis or buses safely from these areas to major terminals like Mabushi, Kugbo, or Central Area,” he said.
The minister emphasized that the terminals would help reduce incidents of “one chance” attacks — where criminals impersonate taxi drivers to rob passengers.
He warned commuters that once the terminals become operational, boarding taxis or buses on the roadside would be at their own risk, stressing that the government has fulfilled its responsibility by providing strategically located bus terminals.
With this initiative, the FCTA aims to enhance the safety, convenience, and reliability of public transport for residents across the Federal Capital Territory.
