Gunmen kill bar owner in Anambra
A bar owner was shot dead by unidentified gunmen near a popular pizza outlet close to the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, causing panic among residents.
The incident occurred late Sunday night. According to eyewitnesses, the victim was driving when he was suddenly ambushed by the attackers, who intercepted his vehicle and shot him twice in the chest before fleeing the scene.
An eyewitness recounted, “It was chaotic near the polytechnic when a group of armed men appeared suddenly, intercepted the man’s car, and shot him. They abandoned his body in the vehicle and escaped.”
Shortly after the attack, a crowd gathered around the vehicle, including the victim’s brother, who discovered the lifeless body. He later drove the vehicle, with the body inside, to a nearby police station.
A video circulating on social media shows the scene moments after the incident, capturing the crowd’s reaction and the brother’s actions.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the killing on Monday, describing it as a cult-related attack.
Ikenga stated, “It was a cult-related killing. Following a swift response by our officers led by the Divisional Police Officer, one suspect has been arrested and is currently undergoing interrogation.”
He added that the victim’s body has been deposited in a morgue, and the vehicle has been recovered by police at the scene. Further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
