The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Muanaenye Chekwube Victor, for allegedly orchestrating the kidnapping of his friend in Uli, Ihiala Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police, Victor conspired with a criminal gang to abduct his friend and later received a ransom equivalent to ₦5.3 million in U.S. dollars before the victim was released.
Police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that operatives from the Uli Divisional Headquarters apprehended the suspect on Friday, June 26, 2025, following an investigation into the reported case.
Ikenga stated that the suspect confessed during interrogation to setting up the kidnapping by luring the victim under the pretense of visiting another friend.
In a bid to deflect suspicion, Victor allegedly faked his own abduction.
“The suspect is currently assisting police with useful information to identify and arrest other members of the gang,” the statement added. “He will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.”
