The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has issued a strong warning to travellers, advising them never to carry luggage they did not personally pack or whose contents they do not fully know.
This caution was reiterated by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday.
Babafemi referenced a recent arrest involving a suspect who was caught attempting to smuggle drugs through an airport. During interrogation, the individual confessed that the bag in question did not belong to him but was handed over by someone else.
“Please listen to the suspect in this video,” Babafemi wrote. “He was asked if he packed the bag he was carrying, and he said no—someone gave it to him. As we always warn, never accept to carry a bag whose contents you don’t know.
If you do, and drugs are found, you become complicit and an accessory. #ndlea_nigeria will get you.”
The agency emphasized that ignorance is no excuse and urged travellers to take responsibility for their luggage at all times.
