The Yobe State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a 55-year-old man, Hamidu Ali, who allegedly killed his wife with a machete in Babangida, Tarmuwa Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, Dungus Abdulkarim, the incident occurred on Friday morning in Koriyel Village.
“At about 11 a.m. on June 28, 2025, the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call reporting that one Hamidu Ali, 55, attacked and hacked his 40-year-old wife to death before fleeing the scene for unknown reasons,” the statement read.
Abdulkarim confirmed that police operatives have since launched a manhunt for the suspect.
In a separate incident, the police also arrested two men—Musa Sule, 25, and Muntari Suleman, 30—from Ngalda Town in Fika Local Government Area.
The duo allegedly murdered a victim over the alleged theft of a cellphone and power bank.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on June 27, 2025, according to Abdulkarim, who said both suspects had confessed to the crime and were currently in custody.
“The suspects are being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” he added.
Reacting to both cases, the Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, appealed to residents to shun violence and allow the law to take its course.
“We urge the public to resolve conflicts peacefully and continue supporting law enforcement efforts to maintain peace and security across the state,” Ado said.
