A deadly clash between rival cult groups in the Atan-Ota area of Ogun State has claimed the life of a 44-year-old man, Bashiru Saidu, suspected to be a member of the Eiye Confraternity.
The incident occurred on Sunday night when four armed men riding on two motorcycles opened fire on Saidu along Bankole Onibukun Street. He was shot in the head and died on the spot.
Confirming the attack, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, said a distress call was received at about 10:00 p.m., prompting a swift police response. Officers found the victim with a fatal gunshot wound and moved his body to the State Hospital Mortuary in Ilaro.
In reaction to the incident, Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has deployed the Anti-Cultism Unit to the area to investigate and apprehend those responsible.
Odutola condemned the killing, stating the command remains committed to eradicating cult-related violence and restoring peace across the state.
She also called on residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
