A 60-year-old Nigerian woman, Nkiru Chima, has been found dead with multiple stab wounds in her flat in Romford, East London, sparking an ongoing investigation by the UK Metropolitan Police.
According to a statement posted on the Metropolitan Police website on Tuesday, officers were alerted at approximately 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, following a report from the British Transport Police concerning the welfare of a woman at an address on Bushy Close, RM1.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of Ms Chima, who had sustained multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers located a woman at the address with multiple stab wounds; she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
She has since been named as 60-year-old Nkiru Chima from Romford,” the police statement read.
Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke from the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command revealed that Ms Chima’s death is believed to be connected to that of a 20-year-old man who died earlier the same day on the train tracks at Romford station.
“As our enquiries have progressed, we are confident that Nkiru’s tragic death is connected to the death of a 20-year-old man on the train tracks at Romford station earlier that evening,” Yorke said. “This man was known to Nkiru, and the British Transport Police continue to investigate his death.”
Yorke expressed appreciation to the local community for their cooperation and called on anyone with information to assist with the ongoing investigation.
“Our thoughts remain with Nkiru’s family at this difficult time,” she said. “Our officers will be continuing enquiries, and we encourage anyone with any information to contact us.”
