A 53-year-old man, Jeremiah Egbebe, was on Friday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing property worth ₦7 million.
Egbebe, whose address was not disclosed, is facing two counts of stealing and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Prosecutor SP Josephine Ikhayere told the court that the incident occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on February 7 in the Jibowu area of Lagos.
She alleged that the defendant stole packages containing jewellery, hair extensions, and shoes, all valued at ₦7 million, belonging to Matthias Apeh.
Ikhayere added that Egbebe’s actions amounted to conduct likely to cause public disturbance, noting that the offences contravene Sections 168(1)(d) and 281(2) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
Magistrate L.A. Owolabi granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦300,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until September 16 for further hearing.
