The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Cletus Effiong Bassey, over alleged involvement in ritual practices and the production of charms for armed robbers.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said in a statement on Friday that the suspect was apprehended on July 29 at about 7 p.m. at his shrine in Nung Oku Village, Uruan Local Government Area, following credible intelligence.
According to the statement, preliminary investigations suggest that Bassey provided native charms, including so-called “bullet repellers,” to criminal gangs.
A search of his compound reportedly led to the recovery of a fabricated single-barrel gun.
“The suspect is being investigated for his alleged role in aiding armed robbers through the supply of protective charms,” the statement read.
The police said further investigations are underway.
