A community in Otan Ile, Osun State, was thrown into panic on Thursday after the lifeless body of an auto mechanic, Tope Olajide, was discovered hanging in his room.
Multiple sources within the agrarian community, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the deceased’s body was found in the morning.
Security personnel were immediately contacted and access to the room was restricted.
One of the residents, during a chat with PUNCH Online, said, “Officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were the first to arrive at the scene of the incident. They interacted with the people they met in the house regarding the incident.”
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Osun Command, Kehinde Adeleke, stated that information reached their Ilare Division office at about 9:27 am on Thursday.
“Information gathered from people living close to the deceased indicates that he had a misunderstanding with his wife on Wednesday night. People insinuated suicide; should that be taken to be true, what led to it is still hidden,” Adeleke said.
The Command used the opportunity to admonish the public, urging individuals facing emotional trauma to seek help from its Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit.
“No one should ever feel compelled to take his or her own life; every life is valuable and irreplaceable,” the PRO added.
