A swift response by firefighters prevented disaster after a fire gutted a residential building and a shop in the Oja-Oba area of Iseyin.

The Oyo State Fire Services Agency confirmed that no casualties were recorded in the incident, which occurred at the Atake, Adebo axis. Properties worth millions of naira were, however, destroyed.

The agency’s Chairman, Mr. Moroof Akinwande, disclosed that a distress call was received at exactly 4:04 p.m. from one Mrs. Adegoke Anifat, prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters to the scene.

“On arrival, the team met an old residential building and an adjoining shop already engulfed in flames. They quickly brought the situation under control, preventing the fire from spreading to surrounding structures.”

Akinwande attributed the cause of the inferno to a power surge from an electrical fault.

He further used the opportunity to advise residents on crucial safety measures.

The chairman urged residents to adopt safety measures, including the installation of fire extinguishers in homes and business premises, to reduce the risk of future fire outbreaks.
