There was mild drama at the Area Court Centre, Igboro, Ilorin, Kwara State, when a woman, identified as Mulikat Yusuf, fainted after her husband, Ishaq Abdulganiyu, insisted on ending their marriage despite her emotional plea for reconciliation.

During proceedings before Judge Toyin Aluko, Abdulganiyu told the court that he was no longer interested in the union, citing persistent misunderstandings.

“My Lord, I’m tired of the marriage,” he reportedly said. “We’ve had several issues, and I don’t see any reason to continue.”

Mulikat, in tears, begged the court to intervene and persuade her husband to reconsider his decision.

“My Lord, please talk to him,” she pleaded. “I have nowhere to go. I’ve given birth to six children for him, and I still want this marriage to work.”

Her appeal, however, failed to change her husband’s stance, as Abdulganiyu maintained his resolve to proceed with the divorce.

Shortly after leaving the courtroom, the distraught woman reportedly collapsed outside, prompting panic among court officials and onlookers.

Sympathisers quickly rushed to her aid and revived her by pouring water on her face.

A court official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Mulikat regained consciousness after a few minutes and was assisted to a bench to rest.

“She fainted immediately after the man confirmed he wouldn’t change his decision,” the official said. “People quickly gathered around her, and she was revived with water.”

Presiding Judge Toyin Aluko later urged the woman to make further efforts to reconcile with her husband and resolve their differences peacefully.

The case was adjourned till December 10, 2025, for a report on reconciliation or continuation of the hearing.
