Panic has gripped residents of Tombo Council Ward in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State following the killing of a former councillor, Mr. Atindiga Tsebee, by suspected armed herdsmen.

The incident occurred over the weekend along the Ayilamo–Anyiin Road, near Tsukwa Village, while the victim was returning from a security meeting held to discuss rising attacks in the area.

Sources said Tsebee was travelling in a vehicle belonging to another community leader, Zaki Terngu Iorhuna, when the attackers laid ambush and opened fire on them.

“They were returning from a meeting on how to curb the incessant attacks when the gunmen struck,” one of the sources said, adding that Tsebee died on the spot.

The killing has thrown the community into mourning, with many residents fleeing their homes for fear of further assaults.

Community leaders have appealed for increased military deployment to forestall renewed violence in the council area.

As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, could not be reached for confirmation.
