Four suspects have been arrested by the police in Kwara State over the alleged killing of the Chief Imam of Tsaragi community, Alhaji Abdullahi Audu.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ilorin on Thursday.
Adeyemi said the incident occurred on November 4, 2025, at about 9:30 p.m. in Tsaragi, Edu Local Government Area of the state.
According to her, trouble began after the death of one Ibrahim Gana, 25, who had been receiving treatment at a hospital in the community.
She said, “Following his death, his brothers, Mohammed Shaba and Mahmud Gana, accused the Chief Imam, Alhaji Abdullahi Audu, of being responsible for their brother’s demise.
In an act of mob violence, the suspects allegedly mobilised others and attacked the cleric with dangerous weapons, leading to his death.”
Adeyemi added that police operatives swiftly launched an investigation into the incident and arrested four suspects, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend others involved.
Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, condemned the killing, warning residents against taking the law into their own hands.
He described jungle justice as a criminal act punishable under the law, urging members of the public to always report grievances or suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
Ojo assured residents of the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and order across the state, adding that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
