Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested three suspected armed criminals during a routine patrol in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State.

The suspects — John Isaac, 22; Baba Emmanuel, 17; and Sunday Thomas, 19 — all from Otukpo Local Government Area, were apprehended on November 5 along the Otukpo–Enugu Road at Amoda axis.

Acting Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, who confirmed the development in a statement, said the suspects were arrested while riding on a motorcycle based on credible intelligence.

He said a locally made pistol, one cartridge, three mobile phones and ₦20,200 cash were recovered from them.

Preliminary investigation, according to Zubairu, revealed that the trio were on their way to carry out a criminal operation before they were intercepted.

He added that the suspects are currently in military custody for further interrogation and prosecution.

The Force Commander, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their vigilance and professionalism, saying their swift action may have averted another violent attack in the area.

Chairman of Ohimini Local Government, Adole Gabriel, who also confirmed the arrest, said it came barely three days after armed herdsmen attacked Anwule community in the council area.
