The Ondo State Police Command has foiled a planned bomb attack in Akure, arresting six suspects and recovering materials suspected to be components for improvised explosive devices.

The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, disclosed this during a press briefing on the security situation in the state, noting that the operation was carried out on April 15, 2026, following credible intelligence.

According to him, operatives acted swiftly on information about a suspected criminal syndicate and intercepted the suspects before they could execute the attack.

He said items recovered during the operation included several bottles, a bag of sugar, suspected charms, mobile phones, cash, laptops, slings, and other exhibits believed to be linked to the planned attack.

The police boss added that preliminary findings indicated that some of the materials were intended for the construction of improvised explosive devices, while others were used to facilitate coordinated criminal activities.

Lawal identified the suspects as Adekunle Prosper, Ojo Olumide, Tope Kolawole, Ahmed Salihu, Bolaji Adebowale, and Gbadebo Abidemi.

He further disclosed that the suspects allegedly operated from a rented apartment in the Oke-Odu area of Akure, where a document detailing potential targets was also recovered.

The commissioner noted that the timely intervention of the police averted what could have resulted in significant loss of lives and destruction of property.

He warned landlords and property managers to conduct proper background checks on prospective tenants to prevent criminals from using residential buildings as operational bases.

Meanwhile, the police also announced the arrest of 10 suspected cultists during a separate operation in Ondo Town.

Lawal said the suspects, including a wanted kingpin identified as Oluwatosin Temitope, popularly known as “T-Money,” were apprehended during a raid by the Special Anti-Cultism Squad.

He said weapons recovered from the suspects included a firearm, cutlasses, an axe, and other items linked to cult activities.

The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling emerging security threats, assuring residents of continued protection of lives and property across the state.
