African Democratic Congress chieftain and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, at the Government House in Bauchi.
Obi’s visit comes amid heightened political manoeuvring surrounding Mohammed’s anticipated defection from the Peoples Democratic Party.
Details of the meeting were not disclosed as both leaders went into a private session at the Presidential Lounge of the Government House. They were, however, expected to brief journalists after the engagement.
The development follows Mohammed’s earlier indication of interest in joining the African Democratic Congress, a position he made known on March 31 while receiving a delegation of the party led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.
Subsequent political engagements have, however, deepened uncertainty over the governor’s next move. On April 1, he hosted the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, further fuelling speculation.
Mohammed, who currently chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, remains a key figure in the unfolding political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His eventual decision is widely seen as pivotal, given its potential impact on the evolving opposition landscape.
