A Court grants El-Rufai access to medical care In ICPC custody Federal High Court has granted former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai permission to receive medical treatment while in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

The ruling was delivered on Wednesday by Justice Rilwan Aikawa during proceedings in the ongoing trial involving alleged money laundering and corruption-related offences against the former governor.

El-Rufai and his co-defendant, Joel Adoga, are facing a 10-count charge bordering on alleged possession and conversion of proceeds of corruption, as well as offences said to contravene the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Both defendants had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to a statement issued by the ICPC spokesman, John Odey, Wednesday’s proceedings focused mainly on an application by El-Rufai seeking a variation of his bail conditions.

The statement added that the defence counsel also appealed to the court to allow the former governor access to medical attention, particularly dental and eye treatment, at selected facilities in Abuja.

The defence specifically sought permission for treatment at Mile Dental Clinic and Skipper Eye-Q Hospital.

Ruling on the request, Justice Aikawa directed the anti-graft agency to escort El-Rufai to the medical facilities whenever necessary under strict supervision and return him to custody immediately after treatment.

The judge stressed that all movements connected to the medical visits must remain under the close monitoring of the commission.

The ICPC, through its spokesman, assured the court of full compliance with the directive while maintaining lawful custody of the defendant pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.

The court had earlier admitted El-Rufai to bail in the sum of N200m with two sureties in like sum, while the administrative bail earlier granted to the second defendant was also adopted by the court.

The matter was subsequently adjourned to May 7, 2026, for ruling on the application seeking a variation of the bail terms.
