Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers during a gun duel in the Karshi area bordering the Federal Capital Territory and Nasarawa State.

The police said the operation was carried out on May 3 following credible intelligence on the activities of the gang.

In a statement issued on Wednesday night, the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed that the operatives stormed the suspects’ hideout during the raid.

She explained that the suspects opened fire on sighting the police team, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.

According to Adeh, the gang leader identified as Baba Ibrahim, popularly known as “Tsoho,” alongside another suspect, Isah Shehu, was neutralised during the confrontation.

The police spokesperson added that three other members of the gang escaped from the scene with suspected gunshot injuries, while one suspect was arrested.

Items recovered from the hideout included two AK-47 rifles, one pistol and 17 rounds of live ammunition.

Adeh said preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate was made up of suspects identified as Khalid, Dan Geskiya, Mohammadu Mai Tsage, Isah Shehu and one Dogo, all allegedly operating under the leadership of Baba Ibrahim.

She further stated that the gang had been linked to several kidnapping incidents in parts of the FCT, including Gwagwalada, Nyanya, Jikwoyi and Karshi.

The command noted that no fewer than 12 victims were allegedly abducted by the syndicate in the affected areas before the latest operation.
