Osun Governor orders probe into poorly executed road project

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has ordered an investigation into the alleged substandard execution of a road project in Aduramigba Community, Ido-Osun.

The directive followed a peaceful protest by residents on Friday, who expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of work on the 4.76-kilometre road passing through their area.

Protesters carried placards with messages such as “No drainage, no stonebase road,” “Don’t cause quick pain for six communities,” and “We oppose corruption on this project.”

The community chairman, Sunday Ogundele, told the protesters that the road lacked a proper drainage system and accused the contractor of delivering poor workmanship.

“They started tarring the road over the weekend, but heavy rainfall on Thursday washed away the asphalt in some sections,” he said.

In response, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said senior officials from the Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Works, and Osun Rural Access and Mobility Project had visited the site to assess the situation.

“The team communicated the Governor’s directive for an immediate review of the project and instructed remedial work in accordance with best practices,” the statement read.

“They also assured the community that beyond the road review, the Governor is addressing other urgent needs.”

Officials are currently engaging with contractors and project managers to gather reports and decide on immediate corrective actions.

The team is expected to submit their findings to the Governor by Monday for further decisions.
