A pall of grief has descended on Kano State following the deaths of a two-year-old boy and a 28-year-old man in two separate well accidents recorded on Wednesday.

The tragic cases occurred in Kwankwaso town, Madobi Local Government Area, and Karofawa Yan Kifi Village in Ghari Local Government Area.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incidents in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to him, the toddler, identified as Sa’idu Ahmad, slipped into a well shortly after noon.

The Service said it received a distress call from Deputy Director Rabiu Garba at about 12:15 p.m., prompting an immediate dispatch of emergency responders.

Rescue officers pulled the boy from the well unconscious and handed him over to personnel at the Madobi Police Division. Abdullahi noted that investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the fall.

Hours later, tragedy struck again in Ghari Local Government Area when another call reported that a man, Suleiman Sani, had plunged into a well in Karofawa Yan Kifi village.

Firefighters were deployed to the scene but could not save the victim. Sani was brought out unconscious and later confirmed dead by his family. His remains were handed over to the village head, Alhaji Musa Aliyu.

The Fire Service expressed condolences to the bereaved families and urged residents to cover wells securely to avert further tragedies.

Fatal domestic well accidents have been reported across several states. In November 2025, a 12-year-old girl, Nabilat, lost her life after falling into a well while fetching water at Ikoyi community in Ilorin West, Kwara State
