Troops of the Nigerian military under Operation Hadin Kai have uncovered an underground logistics base used by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State, recovering fuel, medical supplies and other materials.
The discovery followed intelligence-driven operations carried out on Sunday in the Timbuktu Triangle axis, spanning Chilaria, Garin Faruk and Abirma communities.
Confirming the development in a statement, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Lt-Col Uba Sani, said the operation formed part of the ongoing Operation Desert Sanity.
He said the troops launched coordinated assaults on identified terrorist enclaves after moving out from their locations on January 18, 2026.
According to him, the offensive led to the destruction of several camps linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province, as well as the recovery of arms, equipment and logistics materials.
Sani explained that the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai provided sustained surveillance and intelligence support, enhancing the effectiveness of the ground troops.
He noted that the collaboration between air and ground forces enabled real-time monitoring of insurgent movements, prevented reinforcement and improved operational precision.
Items recovered during the operation included communication devices, ammunition and other military hardware.
The recovered materials, he said, comprised Baofeng radios, mobile phones, AK-47 magazines, rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition, 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition, insurgents’ flags, links of 12.7×108mm ammunition, diesel-powered grinding machines, medical supplies, bags of grains, a pick-up vehicle, as well as an underground storage facility containing petroleum products and lubricants.
Sani said the seizures had significantly degraded the terrorists’ logistics and operational capacity.
He disclosed that the troops came under aerial attacks during the operation but successfully repelled the attempts.
“Despite the drone attacks, the troops sustained the offensive and maintained control of the area, forcing the terrorists to withdraw,” he said.
The spokesperson added that while the security situation in the area was relatively calm, troops remained on high alert due to the unpredictable nature of insurgent activities.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the military high command to sustain the operation until terrorist elements are neutralised, civilians protected and lasting peace restored in the North-East.
