2027: Defecting lawmakers promised automatic tickets, says analyst

A political analyst, Sumner Sambo, has said that several lawmakers who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress were allegedly assured of automatic tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sambo made the claim on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ programme.

According to him, some of the defectors have expressed concerns that the assurances given to them prior to their defection are now being altered.

He noted that the lawmakers were initially promised automatic tickets, particularly those who were encouraged to join the ruling party.

Sambo, however, stated that the situation appears to have changed, as the party leadership is now directing the lawmakers to align with their respective state governors in determining their political future.

He said this development has placed some of the defectors in a difficult position, especially in cases where their relationship with their governors is strained.

The analyst added that the evolving dynamics within the party have left some of the lawmakers uncertain about their chances of securing tickets for the next elections.
