A magistrates’ court in Abeokuta on Thursday sentenced a 26-year-old man, Hassan Gafar, to 18 months in prison for stealing 48 birds and a power generator. Mr Gafar, who resides at No. 23, Iyana Cele Car Wash in Abeokuta, was convicted on a four-count charge bothering on a break-in and stealing. The magistrate, O.O. Douglas Ogbankwa, a former publicity secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), on Thursday appeared in a Benin High Court for allegedly stealing a stabiliser. Mr Ogbankwa is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, forcible entry, wilful damage, theft, forceful ejection and aiding and abetting forceful ejection.
