The political standoff in Rivers State took a new dimension on Sunday as Governor Siminalayi Fubara extended an invitation to the faction of the House of Assembly led by Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule for a meeting.

The invitation was conveyed through a letter issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, and shared with the press in Port Harcourt.

The letter, titled “Meeting Between the Governor of Rivers State and the Honourable Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly”, was addressed to the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule.

It stated that the meeting, scheduled for Monday, March 10, 2025, was prompted by the governor’s receipt of the Certified True Copy of the recent Supreme Court judgement.

According to the letter, the agenda includes discussions on providing a venue for the lawmakers aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to conduct their legislative sessions, the presentation of the 2025 budget, and other pressing matters.

“I hereby write, in furtherance of His Excellency’s promise stated in my letter dated 5 March 2025, to notify you that His Excellency has received the Supreme Court judgement and has therefore directed me to invite you and your colleagues… to a meeting,” the statement read in part.

The meeting is slated for 10 a.m. on Monday at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

“We look forward to your kind attendance with a view to charting the way forward in the interest of the good people of Rivers State,” the letter concluded.
