Man sentenced to 19 years for series of sexual offences against women

A 28-year-old man, Gabriel Hay, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for a string of sexual offences spanning nearly a decade.

Hay, who lived on Gauden Road in Clapham, London, was convicted at Inner London Crown Court on March 10 and sentenced the following day.

The offences took place between 2014 and 2023 and were uncovered following a major investigation by the Metropolitan Police.

He was found guilty of rape, attempted rape, and two counts of sexual assault.

One of the most serious incidents occurred in 2023, when Hay raped a woman he had met while working at a bar in Clapham.

After inviting her and a friend to continue drinking elsewhere, he gave the woman a large amount of alcohol, causing her to become disoriented.

He then took her to his home, where he lived with his mother, and raped her.

The victim reported the assault, and her bravery led police to revisit and link several earlier cases to Hay.

These included a 2014 incident where he groped a woman at a party, a 2016 attempted rape of the same woman, and a 2018 sexual assault of another woman in a taxi in south London.

Detective Sergeant Damian Jones, who led the investigation, praised the courage of the victims for coming forward.

“While nothing can undo Hay’s horrific crimes, I hope this sentence brings some closure.

It’s because of these women’s bravery that he’s now behind bars,” he said.

Jones added that Hay’s conviction removes a dangerous offender from society and reinforces the Metropolitan Police’s commitment to tackling violence against women and girls.
