Three women accuse man of violent assault at Port Harcourt nightclub
Three women have accused a man of violently assaulting them during a night out at Black Box nightclub in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The alleged attack left one woman with a head injury, another with a broken tooth, and a third reportedly stripped and pushed down a staircase.
The incident, which has triggered widespread outrage on social media, came to public attention after the women posted videos online recounting their experience.
According to their statements, the group had booked a table at the nightclub to celebrate a birthday when a man approached them, accusing them of recording him without permission.
One of the victims, visibly injured in the video, claimed the man struck her with a bottle, causing a serious scalp wound.
“All we did was go out as girls. That’s our only ‘offense,’” she said. “Is every girl in Nigeria now assumed to be a prostitute?”
Another woman alleged that the man arrived with security personnel and forcefully took over their reserved table.
“He told me, ‘If they born you well, sit on that seat you paid for,’” she recounted.
She went on to describe the violence that followed, stating, “They started breaking bottles. My friend’s head was smashed, she was bleeding heavily.
Another had her tooth knocked out. As for me, I was stripped and thrown down the stairs.
I was beaten like a thief — all because he came with MOPOL and bodyguards.”
The third woman, who appeared in the video missing a front tooth, appealed to human rights organizations to intervene, expressing fear over the lack of safety for young women in public spaces.
The women also alleged that the man responsible is a regular at the club and has a history of similar incidents.
In response to the public backlash, a man identifying himself as the founder of Black Box nightclub, using the TikTok handle @datfairboy1, released a video statement condemning the assault.
“No one has the right to inflict harm on anyone, especially when there was no threat.
This is not a company statement — this is personal,” he said, describing the incident as “pathetic.”
He added that he had visited the victims in hospital and reported the matter to the authorities.
On Friday, the Rivers State Police Command confirmed that an investigation had been launched. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the command stated: “Regarding the lady that was assaulted in the club, the DPO in that jurisdiction has invited the hotel manager and the alleged suspect for immediate investigation.
We also urge the victims to come forward and make official statements.”
As of the time of reporting, the accused individual had not issued a public response.
