A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, Bala Chiroma, has dismissed concerns that the emerging coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) poses any real threat to the PDP in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to journalists in Bauchi, Chiroma—who also serves as the Senior Special Assistant on Youth to Governor Bala Mohammed—said the ADC lacks the political structure and grassroots presence necessary to challenge the PDP either in Bauchi or nationally.
“The ADC is not a party in the true sense. It is more of an alliance or association, unlike the PDP, which is well-established with functional structures in all 774 local government areas across Nigeria,” he said.
Chiroma emphasized that since its formation in 1998, the PDP has maintained its identity and unity, unlike the APC and ADC, which he described as offshoots of the PDP, formed by former members driven by personal ambitions.
He questioned the viability of the ADC, arguing that it remains largely unknown at the grassroots level even with less than a year to the 2027 elections.
“How can a party without any real presence in the LGAs across the country expect to win elections?” he asked.
The PDP chieftain also criticized former PDP members who defected to the ADC, describing them as ungrateful despite having benefitted significantly from the PDP’s platform.
“It is unfortunate that they now seek to undermine the party that gave them recognition,” he stated.
Chiroma reaffirmed his belief that the PDP remains the only political party capable of rescuing Nigeria from its current challenges. “Nigerians should ignore the ADC and APC.
The PDP is the only party with a clear vision, mission, and the credibility to move this country forward,” he declared.
His remarks come in the wake of recent defections from the PDP to the ADC in Bauchi, which have stirred political debate in the state.
In response, Bauchi ADC chairman Hassan Haruna told Arewa PUNCH that the party continues to attract influential figures, including former governorship candidates Abubakar Sadiq and Halliru Jika, further strengthening its position in the state.
