14-year-old British-Nigerian shot dead in London, three teenagers arrested

A wave of concern has trailed the killing of a 14-year-old British-Nigerian, Eghosa Ogbebor, who was shot dead in the Woolwich area of London, with three teenagers now in police custody over the incident.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the fatal shooting, stating that officers responded to a distress call at about 4 pm on Thursday on Lord Warwick Street.

Emergency responders were said to have made frantic efforts to revive the teenager at the scene, but he was pronounced dead shortly after.

Police disclosed that although formal identification is still pending, the victim has been named as Eghosa Ogbebor, with his family already notified and receiving support from specialist officers.

In a swift development, authorities arrested three suspects — aged 14, 16, and 18 — on suspicion of murder. The trio remains in custody as investigations intensify.

The officer leading the probe, Lucie Card, appealed to members of the public to assist with useful information, assuring that efforts were ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing.

She added that police presence has been strengthened in the area to reassure residents, acknowledging growing unease within the community, particularly given the victim’s young age.

Card also extended condolences to the bereaved family, noting that they had requested privacy during the difficult period.

The incident has further heightened concerns over rising youth violence in the United Kingdom, where cases involving teenagers have continued to draw national attention.

Earlier in January, another Nigerian, John Onetufo, was killed in a stabbing incident in Lewisham, with a teenager later charged in connection with his death, underscoring a troubling pattern of violent crimes among youths.
