The All Progressives Congress has expressed confidence of unseating Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, in the August 15 governorship election, declaring that the party has the capacity to defeat a sitting administration.
The Director General of the APC Campaign Council, Oluwole Oke, made the assertion on Wednesday in Osogbo during the inauguration of the party’s campaign committees.
Oke predicted that Adeleke would lose the poll before 10 pm on election day, insisting that the APC would capitalise on what he described as governance failures under the current administration to secure victory for its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
He accused the state government of mismanaging resources and failing to deliver in critical sectors, including education, healthcare and agriculture.
According to him, payment of workers’ salaries alone does not amount to effective governance, stressing that the APC would address the alleged shortcomings if voted into power.
Oke further assured party members that an Oyebamiji-led administration would prioritise citizens’ welfare and tackle poverty in the state.
He expressed optimism about the party’s chances, boasting that the APC had a track record of defeating incumbent governors at the polls.
However, the Adeleke administration dismissed the claims, describing them as unfounded.
The Deputy Spokesperson to the governor, Oladele Bamiji, maintained that the current government had performed creditably across sectors and would be re-elected.
He said public schools and healthcare facilities in the state were functioning effectively, adding that residents remained satisfied with the administration’s performance.
Bamiji also expressed confidence that the governor would secure victory at the polls well before the time predicted by the opposition.
Voters in Osun State are expected to head to the polls on August 15 to elect a governor, with Adeleke seeking a fresh mandate, while Oyebamiji flies the APC flag.
Another contender in the race is a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Najeem Salaam, who is contesting on the platform of the African Democratic Congress.
