The All Progressives Congress in Akure South Constituency 1 is facing mounting internal tension over allegations of an attempt to impose candidates for the forthcoming elections.
Party stakeholders have raised concerns over the reported move to present Omowunmi Olatunji-Ohwovoriole as the House of Representatives candidate and Adeola Rosemary Fynch as the State House of Assembly flagbearer, both said to be from Ward 5.
The development has sparked disquiet across the six wards in the constituency, with party members and community leaders describing the arrangement as unfair and inconsistent with democratic principles.
Some stakeholders alleged that the move is being backed by the state leadership, including Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, a situation they said has further deepened divisions within theb party.
They argued that concentrating both tickets in a single ward undermines inclusiveness and ignores other aspirants across the constituency who have demonstrated loyalty and grassroots support.
While acknowledging that consensus candidacy is recognised within party processes, the aggrieved members insisted that such arrangements must be based on the collective agreement of all aspirants, rather than unilateral decisions.
They warned that the development could weaken party unity and affect its electoral prospects if not urgently addressed.
The stakeholders therefore called on the party leadership to ensure a level playing field by allowing all interested aspirants to participate in a transparent and credible primary process.
Political observers say the unfolding situation presents a critical test for the APC in Akure South, as the party seeks to balance internal cohesion with electoral success ahead of the polls.
